‘Numbers Count’ Theme Day

‘Numbers Count’ Theme Day

The Skills4Success Team, in the tradition of themed celebrations at UCOL, facilitated a ‘Numbers Count’ day in the Palmerston North Staff Lounge on Wednesday, 23 June.

The day was a resounding success and really helped to raise awareness of numeracy. In addition to staff having a bit of fun with numbers, the event also provided the opportunity to showcase some of the newly-acquired resources available in the UCOL Library to support literacy and numeracy learning and teaching.

As you can see from these tie-breakers for one of the quizzes, staff certainly did have fun!

“Numbers can be fun because they keep the brain active”.

“Numbers can be fun because they provide such a satisfying sense of exactitude”.

“They all count”.

Prizes were awarded to staff who successfully completed the number puzzles that were on offer and winners were awarded a certificate and a selection of number puzzle books, presented to them by the Literacy and Numeracy Leader, Annette Aubrey. It was also good to see the winner of the ‘Jelly Bean Count’, sharing his jar of beans with colleagues!

There were four number ‘brainiacs’ and worthy prize winners who successfully completed the Numbers Count quiz, the Reverse Percentage quiz, the Sudoku puzzle and the Jelly Bean Count.

A big thank you went out to all the staff who entered into the spirit of the occasion and who definitely proved that numbers really do count!

The next event from the UCOL Skills4Success team, ‘Write to Read’, will coincide with International Adult Literacy Week in September.
