Current projects
Upskilling Partnership Project
Evaluation of this project is looking to find out more about effective and efficient ways to initiate, establish, maintain and complete successful literacy, language and numeracy (LLN) initiatives in New Zealand workplaces and to find what evidence there is that LLN initiatives lead to changes in individuals’ skill levels and their workplace practices, and the subsequent impacts on workplace productivity. A return on investment study is included in this project.
Lead researchers: John Benseman and Cathy Wright (Department of Labour), Tim Maloney (Auckland University) and Geoff Perry (AUT).
Engagement of youth in literacy, language and numeracy (LLN) skills development
This research project aims to further our knowledge about how to engage, recruit, retain and support young people in order to better understand how to meet their LLN needs according to their different pathways through education, training and work.
Lead researcher: Karen Vaughan (NZCER)
Modern Apprenticeship literacy, language and numeracy (LLN) support
This evaluation project aims to find out what happens to Modern Apprentices when they receive literacy and numeracy support during the time of their apprenticeships.
Lead researcher: Frank Sligo (Massey University)
Formative Evaluation of the Embedded ITO Literacy and Numeracy Projects
This formative evaluation project aims to find out more about what works best and for whom in ITOs (trainees, supervisors, assessors and workplaces). In particular what is happening formally and informally (in the programmes, in workplaces and for trainees), the balance between these aspects and the medium and long term implications/outcomes for trainees, employers and workplaces.
Lead Researchers: Rose Ryan and Heather McDonald (Heathrose Research Ltd.), Alison Sutton, and Stephanie Doyle.
