Information for Industry Training Organisations

Guidelines for Industry Training Organisations

The purpose of these guidelines is to support Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) to strengthen and extend opportunities for adults to improve their literacy, language and numeracy skills within the training provision of specific industry-related skills.

Find out more about the guidelines for ITOs.

ITO embedded projects

These projects aim to assist ITOs to arrange for the delivery of industry training with embedded literacy and numeracy and to progressively increase the number of industry trainees who improve their literacy and numeracy in the course of undertaking industry training. Funding support is available, and ITOs interested in further information should contact their investment manager/advisor, who will direct them to TEC staff able to provide detailed support and advice.

Workplace Literacy Fund

This fund provides opportunities for people at work to participate in programmes designed to strengthen the literacy, language and numeracy skills they need on the job. Tertiary education organisations and employers can access the Workplace Literacy Fund.

Industry Training Federation

The Industry Training Federation (ITF) is a membership-based organisation that represents 39 Industry Training Organisations (ITOs). The ITF works to support ITOs as they facilitate industry skill development and workplace learning.

ITOs recognise that lifting the level of literacy and numeracy skills in the workforce is essential to improving business performance. They are committed to working in partnership to tackle literacy and numeracy for the benefit of individuals, firms and wider industries.

ITOs address literacy and numeracy issues in a variety of ways, but the main focus is to embed or integrate literacy and numeracy into industry training. The aim is that learners are able to meet the literacy and numeracy demands of the industry training they are undertaking, and therefore both learners and employers are able to reap the benefits of that industry training.
