Workplace literacy and numeracy: Action Research workshops

  • Date: 03 February 2012 - 03 February 2012
  • Location: Auckland
  • City: Auckland
  • Country: New Zealand

Duration - 4 Days

3 February 2012, 16 March 2012, 27 April 2012 and the National Hui 28 & 29 June 2012

Audience and Delivery

This professional development opportunity workshop is for experienced workplace literacy practitioners who wish to develop their practice through action research on an issue that challenges and intrigues them in their work.

These projects will suit practitioners who:

  • are interested in developing their research skills with a view to changing something for the better in their workplace – in either numeracy or digital technology
  • have support from their organization
  • are actively teaching literacy and numeracy in the workplace
  • are prepared to engage with the study and participate in the research
  • can attend all contact days and the National Centre's Symposium 2012
  • are willing to present their findings at the National Centre's Symposium 2012

The action research projects are structured around two broad areas of interest:

  • Strand 1: Numeracy in workplace provision
  • Strand 2: Digital technology in workplace provision

Each strand is limited to 5 participants. Interested practitioners are invited to register their interest in a particular strand.

After registration each person will be contacted by email and asked to outline their research interest in more detail. Preference will be given to projects that have the potential to benefit all New Zealanders including the Tertiary Education Commission priority groups: Māori, Pasifika and Youth. Participants will present at the National Centre's Symposium in June 2012.

You do not need to be an experienced researcher. We’ll help you to find an appropriate focus for your research topic and support you in developing your skills in research methods to enable you to undertake your action research project.

Selection will be based on these responses and practitioners will be informed of their selection by email.

Description

There are 4 group contact days in Auckland throughout the project. Participants need to commit to the project and attend on all the following days – please note, this includes the National Centre's Symposium.
