In this webinar an overview of the processes used to embed literacy and numeracy at Whitireia will be discussed. This webinar will cover three projects titled Poutama, Mapping Pasifika and Co-tutoring. The team will discuss the deliberate acts of teaching in these models and in how these deliberate acts of teaching contributed to successful embedding of literacy and numeracy in different contexts at Whitirea.

Mary Silvester
Mary manages Poutama Academic Learning Services at Whitireia NZ. She is passionate about engaging learners so they thrive and succeed. Her working background is with students for whom English is an additional language, and with students who are pre-literate or have low literacy and numeracy skills. She has been involved with LLN developments since the original Learning for Living exploratory project. Her own academic journey began in science, diverged into horticulture and landscape design and ended up in applied linguistics.
