Education has always excited Debbie as she’s crossed the education sectors from primary to tertiary education. Beginning as a main stream teacher then making the transition into bi-lingual education has raised a desire and an awareness of the importance of engaging the Maori learner. Her position as Literacy and Numeracy Coordinator at Southern Institute of Technology has allowed Debbie to transfer her skills and knowledge to the adult learner.

Study, research, training and participating in Te AO Maori has played a vital role in Debbie’s life both personally and professionally. This has lead to a very successful Engaging Maori Learners programme for tutors at SIT.
