PLANNET Webinars
The PLANNET webinar series began in March 2010. The series comprises free online lectures presented by leading experts in the field each month.
The speaker provides a presentation on a current topic - for example on the use of the newly developed assessment tool - or on a particular topic of interest and importance to the sector or sector groups - for example effective pedagogy for embedding numeracy.
Check the PLANNET webinar calendar for topics and dates. Registration opens two weeks before each webinar. Please note that registration for each webinar closes 15 minutes before the webinar is due to start.
How does a webinar work?
Webinars are similar to face-to-face seminars but are online. At the scheduled time, participants go to an online space where the presenter is available live, on-camera. The presenter then provides a lecture on the specified theme, supported by on-screen slides and commentary. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and interact with the presenter using the chat feature of the webinar space.
We use DimDim for our webinars.
Web-based anywhere access
As the webinars are web-based, participants can join a webinar using a standard computer wherever they are, as long as they can connect to the internet. Computers will need a sound card and we recommend a headset for the best audio experience.
Associated readings available
Pre-readings are provided in the two weeks running up to the webinar.
Webinar recording
Where possible, we record the webinar. This, plus the powerpoint presentation featured in the webinar, is made available on this site after the webinar session, together with the pre-readings.
Forum based discussions
Each webinar is supported by a discussion forum which will remain open for a set period after the presentation of the webinar.
Participants
Just like face-to-face seminars, there is an optimum number of participants to ensure that opportunities for interaction, comments and questions can occur. The webinars are restricted to 30 participants.
Registration
If you are interested in participating in the webinar, register online here. Our team will be in touch by email to let you know if places are available, and to explain how to access the live webinar on the confirmed date and time.
Sometimes places become available for full webinars if a confirmed participant cannot attend so register to let us know your interest. If a webinar topic is particularly popular and is significantly oversubscribed, we may re-run it in the following month.
Please note that registration for each webinar closes 15 minutes before the webinar is due to start.
