Learning unit: Building formulae understanding to build number sense
This unit is designed to help tutors working with adult learners. It provides useful information about engaging learners with formulae. Understanding and using formulae are important outcomes for many trade-based courses at tertiary level.
Learning unit: Pythagoras Theorem
Pythaoras Theorem is important in many trades courses that involve construction, including surveying, building, drainage and roading design. These settings require adults to find the unknown length of one side of a right angled triangle give the lengths of the other two sides.
Learning unit: Teaching trigonometry using proportional thinking
This unit is designed to help tutors who teach courses that use trigonometric (trig) formulae (e.g., sine, cosine and tangent functions). Since trig functions represent ratios between the elements of a triangle, they provide a prime opportunity to develop learners’ proportional thinking skills.

This unit is designed to help tutors working with adult learners. It provides useful information about engaging learners with percentages. Understanding and using percentages is a requirement of many vocational courses at tertiary level. The unit looks at some ways to introduce percentages at an introductory level.

This unit is designed to help tutors who teach courses in which working with rates is important. These courses may involve, rates of exchange, interest rates, yield rates, time and distance rates, rates of coverage, or any number of other contexts.
